American Revolution, 1700-1800 by Joy Masoff

I am looking for more than just a summary in this book report. You will need to do a bit of research into the book and do some critical thinking.

The following is what I’m looking for:

1. A (brief) summary of the book.

2. A statement of the book’s thesis (what it’s trying to prove).

3. Research into the author – does he have any biases (is he a Jewish man writing about the Holocaust? A southerner writing about Reconstruction?) What other works has he written? Where did he go to school?

4. Broad themes in the book – is the book focused on economic history or social history, for example. What time period was the book written in, and does it have any effect on the book? Is it realistic or idealistic?

5. Does the book reinforce what you’ve learned, or is it revisionist (that is, a new way of looking at an event)?

6. What types of sources did the author use? Do they appear to be primary or secondary?

This report should be 2-3 pages. All the usual format rules apply: no title page needed, 1 inch margins, standard 12 point font, give the pertinent info and then start your paper. I do require that you include the bibliographic information on the book somewhere in your paper; it can either be at the beginning before you start or at the end. Simple parenthetical referencing will suffice if needed.

Expanding Product Offerings and Quality

Expanding Product Offerings and Quality

A major producer of passenger tires has launched an advertising campaign in which it is trying to market windshield wipers to the public under its brand name, which has been highly successful in the passenger tire market.

In a 2- to 3-page Microsoft Word document, respond to the following:

Explain why the passenger tire company might choose a product line like windshield wipers to expand its product offerings (as opposed to making steering wheels, opening a bank, or starting a clothing line).
Perform a SWOT analysis of the company’s decision to offer windshield wipers, being in the passenger tire business.
Analyze and describe what impact this attempt to expand the product line will have on quality (answer both in terms of the company’s existing product line, which is passenger tires, and its new product line, which is windshield wipers).
Describe how quality can be measured in an environment such as the one in which the company currently operates (the passenger tire market). In other words, what constitutes quality and how can we quantitatively determine whether the company has it?

Support your responses with examples.
Cite any sources in APA format.

Discussion—Managing Data

There are many solutions today that can help organizations reduce their need for an in-house MIS for decision making or at least provide better storage solutions. With the amount of data that organizations collect and utilize, they need to consider all of the available options to ensure that the system will perform according to expectations.

Another thing that you need to consider when it comes to MIS and decision-making systems is that when inaccurate or incomplete data is entered, you will get bogus results. This is also known as garbage in, garbage out (GIGO). You need to be sure to review all of the data for accuracy before any decisions are made that will affect the organization. A failure to review could result in analysts making critical decisions based on faulty data.

Using the Argosy University online library resources and the Internet, research the efficacy of MIS and decision-making systems.

Respond to the following:

  • With the technology available today, could organizations get to a point where they could let the computers (information systems) generate decisions instead of managers? If yes, do you think you would truly trust the decisions the computer generated? Why or why not?
  • Cloud computing has come into the marketplace over the past few years. What are some advantages of using a cloud-based solution? Would this be something your past or current organization could utilize? Why or why not?
  • You have learned that the data utilized should align with the outcomes for which the business is striving. What if the data does not align with the business outcomes? What potential issues could this cause in terms of making an informed decision? Explain.
  • You have examined making informed decisions based on the data with the information system. Once an organization starts utilizing an information system or decision-making system, can that organization become dependent upon it for all the answers? If the systems go down, will the organization still be able to make decisions or will everything be put on hold? Explain your answer using examples to illustrate your ideas.

Write your initial response in 300–500 words. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Project Financing

Investing in products and services should produce returns so that stockholders, stakeholders, and others are interested in the organization.

In this assignment, you will learn about a new product or service.

Tasks:

For M1 Assignment 4 (“Understanding the Numbers for Better Decisions”), you chose a publicly-traded company and analyzed its financial statements. Use that company to do the following:

  1. Identify a new product or service—either recently rolled out or about to be rolled out—in the company of your choice (Note: Information about new products or services can be found on a company’s website or in the management’s discussion and analysis section of the company’s annual report).
  2. Analyze the quality of the company’s existing projects. Try answering the following questions about returns on the new product or service of your choice.
    • What is the return on equity earned by the company? Based upon this return, is the company picking good projects?
    • What is the return on capital earned by the company? Based upon this return, is the company picking good projects?
  3. Discuss how the company financed the initiative and why it was perceived to be advantageous. To answer this question, you might want to look at the following:
    • How sensitive has this company’s value been to changes in macro-economic variables such as interest rates, currency movements, inflation, and the economy?
    • How sensitive has this company’s operating income been to changes in the same variables?
    • How sensitive is the sector’s value and operating income to the same variables?

Write a 2- to 3-page paper. By Week 4, Day 7, submit your paper to the M4: Assignment 2 Dropbox.

Discussion—Techniques and Tools for Managing the Data

You have explored many options for managing data as well as its importance to the overall health of an organization in making well-informed decisions. Many organizations feel that they have to utilize powerful and expensive solutions, but there are also cheaper alternatives. For example, MS Excel can be a great tool to manage data and identify answers to any questions. Thus, whether your organization is big or small, all the tools need to be evaluated to determine the one that will work best, not only in managing the data but also in lowering the overall cost. Managing cost is important, as you do not want to implement a solution that will bankrupt the organization; that, in itself, is an ill-informed decision.

Using the Argosy University online library resources and the Internet, research tools and techniques of managing data.

Respond to the following:

  • What would be some of the mistakes or consequences of not investigating the costs associated with the organization’s information systems (data collection) choice? Besides going bankrupt, what other effects could it have on the organization? Could it lead to bad decision making? Explain.
  • What systems does your organization utilize, either as a whole or per department? Is this solution effective? Why or why not? Is there a solution that would be more effective? If not, explain why.
  • With the various solutions available today, which one do you think would work best for you? Meaning, which of these solutions (such as MS Excel or a decision-support system)  would work best on the following criteria:
    • Ease of use
    • Interpretation of data
    • Sharing of data
  • Often, we think of business analytics as only for businesses. However, can any of these tools be used for personal decision making? Provide some examples of how you could utilize these tools.

Write your initial response in 300–500 words. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Business Analytics Implementation Plan Part 2

You began writing your business analytics implementation plan in Module 3. The firm currently has technology in place but does not have any connected systems. The databases are all independent of each other but they do utilize a client/server environment. The firm currently has one location but is looking to add a second location in another part of the state but is unsure about whether it would be beneficial to the firm.
